Cincinnati Zoo Opens It's Doors To First New Gorilla Since Harambe
Source - The Cincinnati Zoo opened its doors to another gorilla for the first time since Harambe was tragically killed.
The zoo welcomed Mshindi … a 29-year-old silverback that previously called the Louisville Zoo its home. It’s the first time Cincinnati’s Gorilla World habitat welcomed a gorilla since Harambe was shot and killed in May 2016 after a 4-year-old boy fell into the gorilla’s enclosure.
Zoo officials said they had no regrets taking down the gorilla that sparked a firestorm of controversy. Mshindi will reportedly join two female gorillas — 21-year-old Chewie and 22-year-old Mara.
As they say, time heals all wounds but people don’t forget. It’s a bad look for the Cincinnati Zoo. Not only is Mshindi there strictly for PR reasons, she has to live in Harambe’s enclosure. You’d think they’d have enough heart to get her a new place. No way she wants to live there. The memories of the slaughter are still fresh. The only person to willingly shack up in a murder house is Jimmy Iovine. It never ceases to amaze me how tone deaf some organizations can be. Although I will give them credit for trying to move on. We can’t mourn forever.
I’m not one to root for tragedy but I kind of want it to happen again. And not because I already have a “RIP Mshindi” shirt mocked up. Just so we can see how the zoo would react. I feel like Mshindi could literally get away with murder before they even consider shooting her. People went nuts after we lost ‘Rambe, and the zoo can’t afford another boycott. The backlash would be so strong they’d have to shut down. Close the zoo and release all the animals to run free and fend for themselves.
